Putting the Pieces Together: Ideology Beyond Policy

Ideological differences exist far beyond policy preferences. Our ideologies are built from much more intrinsic building blocks, and as such the effects of this are seen far outside of what is generally considered the political realm of existence. When explaining these ideologies we must look past the policy preferences and more into the base parts of what makes people who they are. Liberals and conservatives differ on important measures, and these differences between us have a deeper root than most see. Morality, motivations, and personality all combine to form the expression of ideology. This paper explores these three aspects of people, and how they interact as driving forces behind one\u27s ideology

Noncommutative associative superproduct for general supersymplectic forms

We define a noncommutative and nonanticommutative associative product for general supersymplectic forms, allowing the explicit treatment of non(anti)commutative field theories from general nonconstant string backgrounds like a graviphoton field. We propose a generalization of deformation quantization a la Fedosov to superspace, which considers noncommutativity in the tangent bundle instead of base space, by defining the Weyl super product of elements of Weyl super algebra bundles. Super Poincare symmetry is not broken and chirality seems not to be compromised in our formulation. We show that, for a particular case, the projection of the Weyl super product to the base space gives rise the Moyal product for non(anti)commutative theories.Comment: 22 pages, revtex4. Characterization of printable electrical sensors applied to cellular cultures

Impedance biosensors have turned in a special interest as label-free and low cost platforms for real time detection of biological phenomena. The objective of this study was to characterize a given model of an interdigitated electrode sensor (model 1) manufactured by inkjet printing technology over a flexible substrate (PET). This characterization was applied to HaCaT cellular cultures at different confluences in order to distinguish an impedance response first associated with the cellular presence and then proportional to the cellular confluence of such presence. With this aim in mind, impedance spectroscopy principle was employed as the main analysis method. From the empirical impedance response, electrical equivalent circuits were obtained by fitting the empirical values with theoretical circuit’s elements. In addition, inverted and scanning electron microscopes were used in order to visualize the whole process, as a way of ensuring that the electrical changes recorded had a real and relevant biological meaning. Three different conditions were tested over the sensor: culture medium without cells, HaCaT epithelial cells seeded over the sensor at 40% of confluence and at 80% of confluence. Impedance responses were recorded each 2 h during 36 h. Results obtained showed that at some point the cellular presence changed the equivalent electrical circuit when compared with the control measurements performed without cells. This change in the circuit has been associated with the cellular attachment of the cells on the IDE, which, as it was later confirmed by the visualization of the cellular culture, has been identified to take place from 22 h on and coincides with the presence of an additional time constant in the electrical circuit. Moreover, the constant phase element of such equivalent circuits was compared for the three conditions, obtaining that its variation is inversely proportional to the area covered by the cells on the sensor. The main drawback encountered during the process was the noise coming at low frequencies that compromise the measurement from 0,1 Hz to 10 Hz. In conclusion, this work has been useful to prove that IDEs can provide an impedance response associated to cellular presence. Based on the main findings, another setup to reduce the noise was proposed (solution design: model 2) and tested for the following experiments, reporting good results.Ingeniería Biomédica (Plan 2010

A atuação do psicólogo na escola de Ensino Fundamental: modalidades de trabalho

A psychologist in the school context facilitates possibilities, especially in elementary school. Given this, the objective of this study was to investigate the performance of the psychologist in elementary school, punctuating the modalities of work that are being performed. A systematic review was made to search the databases Virtual Health Library, PubMed Central, Scielo, Directory of Open Access Journals and Directory of Open Access Repositories. Keywords: psychology, school, experience report. Thus, eight articles were analyzed, considering the characteristics of the participants and the modalities of interventions, as well as the results from these works. The amount of work found marks a weakening of experience reports of psychology professionals, and this modality of work ends up being little valued by the scientific community. It is suggested that the construction of experience reports be made for the knowledge on interventions of psychology professionals contribute further development of psychological practices in the school context.Un psicólogo escolar es un facilitador de posibilidades, especialmente en la escuela primaria. Ante esto, el objetivo de este estudio fue investigar el papel del psicólogo en la escuela primaria, puntuando los tipos de trabajo que se realizan actualmente. Se realizó una revisión sistemática contemplando una búsqueda en la Biblioteca Virtual en Salud, PubMed Central, Scielo, el Directorio de Revistas de Acceso Abierto y el Directorio de bases de datos de Repositorios de Acceso Abierto. Se analizaron ocho artículos, considerando las características de los participantes y las modalidades de las intervenciones, así como los resultados de estos trabajos. La cantidad de trabajo encontrado marca un debilitamiento de los informes de experiencia de profesionales en psicología, y este tipo de trabajo es poco valorado por la comunidad científica. Se sugiere que el trabajo se desarrolle en forma de informes de experiencia para la difusión del conocimiento de las intervenciones por parte de profesionales en psicología y el desarrollo de prácticas psicológicas en el contexto escolar.Um psicólogo no contexto escolar é facilitador de possibilidades, especialmente no Ensino Fundamental. Diante isso, o objetivo desse estudo foi de investigar a atuação do psicólogo na escola de ensino fundamental, pontuando as modalidades de trabalho que estão sendo executadas atualmente. Realizou-se uma revisão sistemática contemplando uma busca nas bases de dados Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde, PubMed Central, Scielo, Directory of Open Access Journals e Directory of Open Access Repositories. Foram analisados oito artigos, considerando as características dos participantes e as modalidades de intervenções, bem como os resultados desses trabalhos. A quantidade de trabalhos encontrados demarca uma fragilização de relatos de experiência dos profissionais da psicologia, sendo que essa modalidade de trabalho é pouco valorizada pela comunidade científica. Sugere-se que sejam desenvolvidos trabalhos na modalidade de relatos de experiência para a divulgação do conhecimento sobre intervenções de profissionais da psicologia e desenvolvimento das práticas psicológicas em contexto escolar

Predictive control of power converters: Designs with guaranteed performance
